It is a dark week for old tired music game franchises, as Activision has shuttered their music games division and halted all development on Guitar Hero and all its DLC. Harmonix is also hit with layoffs, and so it seems like the lean times for music games are finally taking their toll on developers. Also on the show this week, big leaks on Battlefield 3, Sony proceeds to try to sue anyone with an Internet connection and get in a whole mess of other legal troubles, we discuss PR material from LA Noire and Call of Juarez: The Cartel, Fox News surprises us all by living down to their reputation, and we discuss the cold shower that is sex in gaming. The blatant inferiority of my biological existence has been made manifest. As I am made of wet flesh and fragile bone instead of strong, sleek, superior titanium, carbon fiber and electroactive polymer, I rolled and broke my ankle yesterday. This inevitable failing of my organic body has delayed the podcast by a day, something that will never occur again. As I write this, the weak analog uncertainty of flesh is giving way to the cold precision of machine, ensuring the podcast will never be delayed again. By this, at least. I make no promises for busy work, college insanity, and general laziness.

This week, we have the Parade of Stupid Company Executive Comments, we lament the sad passing of Raven Software’s independence and Warren Spector’s credibility as a game designer, and talk about two upcoming action/adventure game franchises involving tombs and the raiding thereof. Also, here’s a link to that YouTube video showing off just how realistic Gran Turismo 5 is.

Starcraft II on sale around the world

Long-awaited real-time strategy game (RTS) StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has gone on sale after a 12-year wait. The game follows on from the 1998 release of StarCraft, putting the player in command of a group of humans battling for survival against an insect horde and telepathic aliens. StarCraft II now holds the record as the longest time between sequels. The first edition sold over nine million copies and is seen as one of the defining games of the genre, along with EA’s Command & Conquer.
