Finally, we have good news to bring you, fair listeners! There’s the obvious announcements of Team Fortress 2 going free-to-play and the Supreme Court ruling video games as protected speech, but other, more subtle things, like LA Noire being announced for the PC and possibly the end of wireless bandwidth limitations. It can’t all be positive, Nintendo decided to kick some dirt in fans of quality JRPGs, Eve Online wants all your money, and Capcom’s rolling out a new and even more restrictive form of DRM, but on balance? I’d say this one’s pretty positive. Please, Share and Enjoy.

My Mom Plays Final Fantasy X

This is part 2 in an ongoing series about my 53-year-old mother’s attempts to play video games. Part 1 can be found here.

After Portal, I decided to have my mom play Final Fantasy X. I chose this particular Final Fantasy game because it is entirely turn-based. Unlike many other games in the series, almost nothing in the game requires a fast reaction time — you have as long as you want to make menu selections. I figured that this would be make the game easier for her to pick up.  Mom was excited about this, because she knew how much I liked the series.  “I’ve never played Final Fantasy! Can you just start in the middle at 10?”

Underappreciated LGBT Characters in Gaming

Sure, everyone knows about the LGBT characters who get all of the attention, like Tony Prince from The Ballad of Gay Tony, Zevran from Dragon Age, and a large percentage of the female Commanders Shepard from Mass Effect. But what about the lesser known gay characters in gaming?  These characters’ moment in the spotlight is long overdue, and it’s time for them to get a moment of recognition.

Yes, the date at the top is a day late. There were some planned new ideas that did not pan out in time, but soon! Soon, new shiny will be among us. I blame football, as I do for nearly everything, independent of season. We now have a place for all fifteen of you who listen to the show to hurl abuse at us in private! Or maybe constructive criticism or possibly compliments, if that’s your style. Please, email us at fgecpodcast@fullglassemptyclip.com, and tell us how we’re doing and mock us for our tardiness. It’s the only way we’ll learn.

In today’s delayed podcast, we talk about the utter dearth of information imparted by the new Battlefield 3 teaser, Valve is making enough money to buy and sell all of us, we think back on the monster success of the PS2, Microsoft caves in to our demands, game movie news that doesn’t involve Uncharted, I’m alternatively mean and complimentary to Canada, then geek out about an upcoming Android game, and as we found ourselves with some spare time, we dive deep into our navels and talk about beer for ten minutes. Why we drink it, and why it’s something we can all be proud of as Americans. Oh, and Canadians. We don’t mention it, but Unibroue makes some badass beer too. Please, enjoy.

Ah, Ben has now returned to his proper residence in Goleta, which means that his side of the podcast will no longer be transmitted by carrier pigeons. One would think this would free us from technical issues (pigeons are a notoriously unreliable way of sending Skype traffic), but you would be mistaken! We struggled mightily through various sound-related issues, but we have persevered, and have managed to bring you a somewhat dented and scuffed-up version of the Full Glass Empty Clip Podcast.

For this edition, we properly cover the launch of the new Sony handheld console, the NGP (née PSP2), Ben talks about Magicka for a bit, more Sony news bits about the PS3′s upcoming firmware updates and why you should care, Activision actually does something pretty cool, we bitch about video game movies and what we two entertainment industry powerhouses think should be make the leap from console to big screen, and cap it off with some idle thoughts about the possible fate of the game demo. Please, enjoy.
