Welcome to the last Full Glass Empty Clip Podcast episode for 2010! This milestone might mean a bit more if we were more than a handful of episodes in, but we’ll take what we can get.

For this final episode, we talk about Bulletstorm and the potentials for amusing censorship contained within, Microsoft refuses to stand for the libelous claims that they will improve their products, the Uncharted movie might not be doomed after all, lawsuits abound, and we discuss the games of 2010 and what we’re looking forward to in 2011. We spend so long discussing the year that was and the year that is yet to be that we go almost a full half-hour past our usual one-hour mark, so grab a drink and something to eat, settle in for the long-haul with us and have a happy New Year.

turkeyfire

Preparations have begun in earnest for the annual family tradition of subjecting poultry to our pathetic attempts to render something resembling the Rockwell-esque family feast ideal. Neighbors have been notified, the proper authorities alerted and the Army is on standby in case we have a repeat of two years ago and need to, as the documentary film Aliens taught us, pull out and nuke the site from orbit (it’s the only way to be sure). This year, our household has decided to add third-degree burns to the roulette wheel of potential disasters by frying our turkey. We hope to produce a juicy and succulent bird for the family, or to at least go out in a flavor-injected twenty-foot fireball.

But you are not here to read about our culinary misadventures; you’re not here to read at all! For the podcast this week, we have some useful consumer advice on this week’s big game sales, the cancellation of the Ender’s Game game, Kinect possibly takes a tentative step towards the future, we finally codify our lambasting of game company executives into a new segment, and I give my thoughts on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Please, enjoy!

I built Full Glass Empty Clip last year to be the public face of Mefight Club, the semi-private gaming community I started together with a bunch of other Metafilter members more than three years ago.

Mefight Club and this weblog have both succeeded beyond my wildest dreams. We have a stable of great writers and, er, talkers here at the blog, and the community over at the forum continues to grow as more grown-up gamers who cherish playing with friends hear about it, from Metafilter itself or through friends. Our ethos has always explicitly been to value fun, kindness, generosity and the occasional drink or three.

But today, well, today we outdid ourselves.

A few weeks back, one of our members thought that it might be a nice idea for the Christmas (and other non-denominational wintertime) holidays to get together a group donation to Child’s Play Charity.

Child’s Play’s mission is to collect donations for toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world, and we thought that that sounded like a pretty damn fine idea.

Today, we donated $4155 to Child’s Play. That is, in the most literal sense of the word, awesome.

To everyone from Mefight Club who contributed: you folks are freakin’ heroes. I am honoured to be able to shoot, stab, blow up and otherwise commit mayhem on you in all the games we play together.

Share and enjoy.

So, on the day of the eighth, being a rather hectic Wednesday for me, I found some time to run over to random.org and I played the tnumber game. My first roll, strangely enough, was a 1. In a DnD game that would have equaled fail. In this game, hat equaled Rush, a puzzle game from the makers of Toki Tori, a game that I recall the name of and nothing else.

For farts and funnies I rolled it two more times to hand over runners-up prizes to the next two folks (That is to say “I’m glad I didn’t play this” awards, in retrospect), and it came up with a six, and then a five. Out of the eight entries, I think I managed to luck out with the easiest one.

The whole game-show-esque results after the jump:

ankle

The blatant inferiority of my biological existence has been made manifest. As I am made of wet flesh and fragile bone instead of strong, sleek, superior titanium, carbon fiber and electroactive polymer, I rolled and broke my ankle yesterday. This inevitable failing of my organic body has delayed the podcast by a day, something that will never occur again. As I write this, the weak analog uncertainty of flesh is giving way to the cold precision of machine, ensuring the podcast will never be delayed again. By this, at least. I make no promises for busy work, college insanity, and general laziness.

This week, we have the Parade of Stupid Company Executive Comments, we lament the sad passing of Raven Software’s independence and Warren Spector’s credibility as a game designer, and talk about two upcoming action/adventure game franchises involving tombs and the raiding thereof. Also, here’s a link to that YouTube video showing off just how realistic Gran Turismo 5 is.
