It’s 1977. I’m 12 years old. It’s a gorgeous Northern BC summer day, one of those glorious fleeting perfect days that are all the sweeter in the frozen north, because the memories of mud and slush barely fade before the leaves have already begun to turn again. Utterly pure blue sky, sun warm on the skin, grass a deep impatient green, a light breeze off the lake that is so invigoratingly packed with oxygen and piney perfume it might as well be cocaine. I’m playing third base, it’s what we’d call little league if we called it that in Canada back then, I’m just beginning to feel the awkwardness of adolescence, but the sheer pleasure of being alive and standing on that dirt under that gigantic bowl of sky on that day is more than enough to let me ignore my self-consciousness. I’m a big, strong kid, and even if I’m more bookworm than jock, I enjoy sports.

I still remember when I first played Worms. I think it was an early version, back in 2000 or so, and it was at a friend’s house. He won. I punched him and played his drumset. His mother made a vociferous objection – to the drumming, not to the son-punching. We played another round, and I kicked his ass so hard we only found it the week after. Then his mom sat around the house. Like, AROUND the house.
I like Worms. I liked it so much I even bought a Holy Hand Grenade, only to find later it came from Monty Python. Fortunately for all involved, I liked Monty Python too – possibly even more than Worms. NO! you gasp. YES! I proclaim.
Greg already gifted me a copy, but HOORAY FOR MORE FREE STUFF is all I gotta say. You are awesome, Mr Cranium.

I tried a demo version of Worms before. I didn’t really get the hang of it. Then I saw some videos of people that knew what they were doing and it looked really cool! Looks like fun!

A friend and I dug up Worms Armageddon to play again, having not played in years—coincidentally the day before Worms Reloaded was announced for PC.
It’s still a great game, and I have every hope that in going back to the 2D-roots this version will preserve what was best about the originals.

Holy cow, most popular Free Game Post ever.
Well, except that time in the great Free Game Post Jamboree of ’02. They had folks from all over come and post for a free game. Short, tall, fat, skinny, young, old, everyone came down and put in their two cents. The atmosphere was almost erotically stifling. I almost had a chance to post myself, but just before I got to the head of the line, I was inexplicably tackled by a large Chinese Elvis impersonator, who demanded to see my passport, which I wasn’t carrying at the time.
Anyway, long story short, I’m honored to finally have another chance to make a free game post.
